What are the system rules governing appearance of WebEngage Survey and Notification?

System rules for surveys and notifications are almost identical. Other than the targeting rules, below system logic also plays a role in appearance of a notification or a survey –

For surveys:

  1. If a visitor answers at least one question of a survey, it never appears again in the same browser unless cookies are cleared.
  2. If a visitor closes a survey, it never appears again to the same visitor in the same session unless cookies are cleared. If (s)he closes the browser, re-opens and come back to the your site, it will re-appear.
  3. If someone views a survey maximum number of times as specified in the dashboard, it never appears again to the same visitor unless cookies are cleared.

For notifications:

  1. If a visitor clicks a notification, it never appears again in the same browser unless cookies are cleared.
  2. If a visitor closes a notification, it never appears again to the same visitor in the same session unless cookies are cleared. If (s)he closes the browser, re-opens and come back to the your site, it will re-appear.
  3. If someone views a notification maximum number of times as specified in the dashboard, it never appears again to the same visitor unless cookies are cleared.

Having said that, we do provide JavaScript API using which you override the behavior but we generally advise against it since it hampers user experience.
